4/11/2008 Weather Discussion: High pressure will bring warm sunny weather to the Cascades for most of the weekend. Long-term models show the high pressure weakening late Sunday. This will allow another NW flow to develop to produce a cool and wet week ahead. Forecast from Friday 4pm to Saturday 4am Precipitation 0 in. Water 0 in. Snow Temperatures Low 34 High 48 Winds 0-5 SW Forecast for Saturday 4am to 4pm Precipitation 0 in. Water 0 in. Snow Temperatures Low 34 High 50 Winds 5-15 E TRENDS AND TIMING Precipitation: 0 Freezing levels: Freezing levels will rise to near 7000’ this afternoon and push even higher tomorrow. Freezing levels will stay above the pass level until late Sunday. Winds: An east flow will develop over night as the meat of the warm front approaches the crest. East wind could be gusty tomorrow morning. Winds should taper and swing to a light southerly flow by tomorrow afternoon. jdm

4/10/2008 Weather Discussion: High pressure currently building over the PNW will produce a warm and dry final weekend to Stevens Pass. Long-term models show a cold front moving through on Sunday. This will bring a return to a cool wet pattern for the up coming week. AVALANCHE AWARENESS: With the rapid rising temperature trend the avalanche potential will rise as well. Expect new snow surface slides of a foot or more on all sun exposed slopes tomorrow and through the weekend. Be careful out there. Forecast from Thursday 4pm to Friday 4am Precipitation 0 in. Water 0 in. Snow Temperatures Low 26 High 32 Winds 0-5 W Forecast for Friday 4am to 4pm Precipitation 0 in. Water 0 in. Snow Temperatures Low 26 High 50 Winds 0-5 W TRENDS AND TIMING Precipitation: Snow should taper off this evening. A dry pattern should remain in place though most of the weekend. Freezing levels: Freezing levels should reach pass level sometime this afternoon and slip back down to 3000’ overnight. Freezing levels will then quickly push up to 7000+ feet by tomorrow evening. Temps will rise higher on Saturday with freezing levels potentially peaking 10K or higher. Winds: Westerly winds will also taper off today in response to the building high pressure. Light westerly flow tomorrow will give way to a developing east flow on Saturday. jdm

4/9/2008 Weather Discussion: A band of moisture will pass through the mountains tonight bringing one more round of snow before high pressure sets in tomorrow evening. Long-term models brings spring back once again as warm sunny weather moves in for the last weekend of the season. Nice! Forecast from Wednesday 4pm to Thursday 4am Precipitation .25 in. Water 1-3 in. Snow Temperatures Low 22 High 34 Winds 5-10 W Gust 20 Forecast for Thursday 4am to 4pm Precipitation .10 in. Water 0-2 in. Snow Temperatures Low 24 High 38 Winds 5-10 W gusty TRENDS AND TIMING Precipitation: Snow should develop after 4pm today and continue through the night. Snow will taper off through tomorrow as high pressure develops. Dry on Friday. Freezing levels: Freezing levels will slowly rise from 2000’ this morning and eventually make it to pass level by tomorrow afternoon. We can expect very high freezing levels for Friday – could reach as high as 7000+ feet with even warmer sun driven surface temps. Winds: Winds will remain light today. The approaching front will bring westerly wind speeds up a notch as a short lived convergence zone develops in the early morning hours. Could see wind gust in the 20mph range tomorrow morning. 4/6/2008 Weather Discussion: Mountain snow showers will continue tomorrow and into early next week. Long-term models show a series of strengthening storms tracking towards the PNW for next week. These storms seem to get progressively warmer with each system. Freezing levels could be coming close to the rain level by the end of the week. Given the time of year that is no surprise. Forecast from Sunday 4pm to Monday 4am Precipitation Lt .25 in. Water 1-3 in. Snow Temperatures Low 25 High 32 Winds 0-10 WSW Forecast for Monday 4am to 4pm Precipitation .25 in. Water 3-5 in. Snow Temperatures Low 26 High 32 Winds 0-10 W TRENDS AND TIMING Precipitation: Mountain snow showers will continue tomorrow. There may be periods of convergence so showers could be heavy at times. This could push snow totals up an inch or two. Freezing levels: Freezing levels will slowly fall from 4000’ today to as low as 2500’ by tomorrow. Freezing levels should stick around the 3000’ mark tomorrow - cooling for Tuesday. Winds: Pass level winds seem not to be much interest with these systems. Weak westerly flow will be the norm for a few days. I am watching the system approaching for the middle of the week – this is currently packing more of a wind punch. jdm

4/5/2008 Weather Discussion: Light snow will show back up tonight and continue through the beginning of the week. Long-term models are all over the board on what will happen next week. The Northern jet is still in a NW flow pattern, so we will keep cool unsettled weather in the picture for now. Forecast from Saturday 4pm to Sunday 4am Precipitation Lt .25 in. Water 1-3 in. Snow Temperatures Low 28 High 34 Winds 0-5 SW Forecast for Sunday 4am to 4pm Precipitation .10 in. Water 0-2 in. Snow Temperatures Low 26 High 32 Winds 0-10 SW TRENDS AND TIMING Precipitation: Light snow should begin again this evening and continue through tomorrow. Snow intensity is expected to intensify tomorrow night with a better chance of some accumulation for Monday morning. Freezing levels: Freezing levels will bounce between 3 and 4000 until Monday. Freezing levels are expected to drop lower for the beginning of the week. Winds: Not much in the way of winds with these systems. Some short gusty periods possible but winds overall should not be a worry. jdm

4/4/2008 Weather Discussion: Looks like winter might win the battle this week. Light snow will slowly taper off today for a short intermission through tomorrow. Snow will redevelop for tomorrow night and Sunday. Long-term models show cool unsettled weather continuing at least through the middle of next week. Forecast from Friday 4pm to Saturday 4am Precipitation .10 in. Water 0-2 in. Snow Temperatures Low 26 High 30 Winds 5-10 W gusty Forecast for Saturday 4am to 4pm Precipitation .10 in. Water 0-2 in. Snow Temperatures Low 24 High 34 Winds 0-10 W TRENDS AND TIMING Precipitation: Snow will taper to showers by 4pm today. Weak mountain snow showers will continue though the night. The next more potent front is expected after 4pm tomorrow. Freezing levels: Freezing levels will slowly drop though the night. Freezing levels will bounce up to near 4000’ tomorrow but should fall again with the next cold front. Snow levels will remain below pass level well into next week. Winds: Westerly flow will be the norm as these systems pass through. Frontal winds will bring a short gusty period late tonight (gust to 25+ possible) but not seeing much in the way of sustained winds for tomorrow. jdm

4/3/2008 Weather Discussion: We will have one more nice day before the high pressure begins to weaken and drift east. This will allow another NW flow to develop and bring snow into the forecast tomorrow. Long-term models show another stronger system for Saturday/Sunday. The up coming week looks cool and wet as the northern jet takes another run at the PNW. The Climate Prediction Center predicts that the PNW will have below average temps and above average precipitation for the next 8-14 days. I guess winter will be stick around for another week or so. Forecast from Thursday 4pm to Friday 4am Precipitation 0 in. Water 0 in. Snow Temperatures Low 30 High 45 Winds 0-5 SW Forecast for Friday 4am to 4pm Precipitation lt .25 in. Water 1-3 in. Snow Temperatures Low 24 High 30 Winds 0-5 W TRENDS AND TIMING Precipitation: The next 12 hours will remain dry. High clouds will show up indicating the developing snow for tomorrow. Freezing levels: Freezing levels will slowly drop to reach 2000’ by tomorrow morning. Freezing levels should remain below pass level through the weekend. Winds: Not much in the way of wind with tomorrow’s system. Could see a short breezy period tomorrow night as the leading edge of the cold front passes but shouldn’t be much. jdm

4/1/2008 Weather Discussion: High pressure has finally made it here. Not that we should complain, the skiing has be fantastic. Dry sunny weather should continue for most of the week. Long-term models show dry weather with warming temps prevailing through the weekend. Spring perhaps? Forecast from Tuesday 4pm to Wednesday 4am Precipitation 0 in. Water 0 in. Snow Temperatures Low 16 High 34 Winds 0-5 N Forecast for Wednesday 4am to 4pm Precipitation 0 in. Water 0 in. Snow Temperatures Low 18 High 45 Winds 0-5 NE TRENDS AND TIMING Precipitation: No moisture expected for a while. Freezing levels: Freezing levels will remain on the low end as we hold in a northerly flow pattern. Freezing level will reach 4000’ by tomorrow afternoon. The sun will push surface temps up while night time temps stay low. The overall freezing level trend will be rising as the week progresses. Winds: Light northerly flow will prevail though most of the week with a trend toward NW by the end of the week. jdm
