Long-term models show high-pressure rebuilding tomorrow night producing a longer period of dry and warm weather. Should be a great closing weekend. Snow Temperatures Low 34 High 40 Winds 5-15 W TRENDS AND TIMING Precipitation: Rain will move into the mountains early tomorrow morning. Rain will slowly change to snow after noon tomorrow and then begin to taper off. Dry conditions should be set up by early Saturday morning. Freezing levels: Freezing levels will hover near 5500’ through noon tomorrow. Freezing levels will then slowly trend down, falling below pass level sometime tomorrow evening. 4/11/2009 Weather Discussion: A strong cold front tracking in from the NW will bring a vigorous storm to the mountains starting tomorrow. Long-term models show high pressure bringing drier and warmer weather to the region for second half of the week. Forecast from Saturday 4pm to Sunday 4am Precipitation .10 in. Water 0-2 in. Snow Temperatures Low 30 High 36 Winds 0-5 W Forecast for Sunday 4am to 4pm Precipitation .5 in. Water 3-5 in. Snow Temperatures Low 30 High 40 Winds 5-10 SW TRENDS AND TIMING Precipitation: The good news is that we should have some nice snow on the ground by Monday morning; the bad news is that we might have to endure some rain first. Light scattered showers will be possible today before the first round of moisture moves in tomorrow morning. The day will start out soggy before the cool air and more moisture moves in tomorrow night. Storm totals by noon Monday are currently around 2” of water. Freezing levels: Freezing levels will hover around 4000’ tonight and then briefly push up to 5000’ tomorrow. Freezing levels drop to 2000’ in the wake of the cold front sometime late tomorrow night. Temperatures will slowly rise back to seasonal norms by the time we resume operations on Thursday. Winds: Westerly winds will pick up today and then shift SW overnight. The stronger or the two will move through Sunday, which will bring snow to the mountains for the start of the week. Long-term models show high-pressure building during the middle of the week but NW flow aloft will continue to bring the threat of more storms to the PNW for the longer term.
