Radar: Clear to the west with a mid level cloud deck over the mountains and eastern basin.

The Forecast:   This stretch of dry weather with warmer temperatures will continue through the weekend.

Long Range:  There will be a chance of some light mixed rain and snow on Monday and Tuesday with the remainder of next week trending dry.   

There are no significant snow or rain events on the horizon for the PNW.
  
The Science:  High pressure stationed off of the PNW coast will continue to dominate the weather pattern through the weekend. Some weak disturbances will make it through on Monday and Tuesday.  Freezing levels be at 5000’ or above through weekend with cooler temperatures arriving late next week.

Radar:  Dry and clear over the mountains.

The Forecast:  Clear, cool and dry weather will settle over the PNW today.

Long Range: Dry and mostly clear weather with seasonally cool temperatures will persist through at least the upcoming weekend.
  
The Science:  A blocking ridge of high pressure will dominate the weather pattern for the next 7+ days.  A cold arctic air mass dropping into the intermountain west will create cold offshore flow for the PNW.  Watch for early morning freezing temperatures and gusty easterly winds tomorrow.  Temperatures trend warmer towards the end of the week.  Enjoy.

Sky: Clear           
Radar: Clear east of the crest with high clouds to the west.

The Forecast:  Increasing clouds today with mixed rain and snow expected tomorrow.

Long Range: Dry and clear weather returns over the weekend with mostly dry but cooler weather for the upcoming week.   
  
The Science:  A triple point frontal system tracking north into BC will bring high clouds today with mixed snow and rain for the Cascades tomorrow.  Freezing levels will drop to +-4500’ tomorrow, so expect some snow mixed in with the rain at Pass level.  

High pressure, stationed off the PNW coast will strengthen and drift east over the weekend.  This will likely produce a blocking and offshore flow pattern for the PNW.  In other words, a prolonged dry period with seasonally average (cool) temperatures.

Current Observations:
24hr Precipitation: .92” of water, 8”of wet heavy snow at Pass level.
Temperature profile: 36 base, 32 ridge        
Pass level winds:  light and westerly
Barometer: 1018mb’s and rising                
Sky: Overcast                         
Radar: Heavy rain tracking SE through the Strait of Juan de Fuca with the snow level around 5000’.   Mostly dry east of the Cascade Crest.

The Forecast: Heavy rain with high mountain snow and wind can be expected this afternoon with freezing levels rising above 6000’.

Long Range: A drying trend begins tomorrow with the next chance of rain arriving on Friday.  
   
The Science: A strong moist warm front will move into the region today with heavy rain and high mountain snow.   Freezing levels will rise above 6000’ this afternoon and remain well above Pass level through the night.

The good news; high pressure will begin to build over the region starting tomorrow.  3 days of dry and sunny weather can be anticipated.

Current Observations:
24hr Precipitation:  .85” overnight, 1-3” of snow above 4500’
Temperature profile: 34base, 32 ridge
Pass level winds: 5mph average with 20+mph gusts
Barometer: 1009 mb’s and slowly rising
Sky:  OC
Radar: Gusty winds this morning with mixed rain and snow showers west of the Cascade Crest and tracking NE.

The Forecast:  Mixed rain and snow showers will persist through the weekend.  

Long Range:  The moisture will come to an end on Wednesday with dry and clearer weather expected for the remainder of the week.  Temperature will be seasonally normal (mid to upper 30’s)  
  
The Science: Cool unstable westerly flow has filled in behind the cold front that passed east of the crest last night.  The westerly flow will continue to drive disturbances into the mountains through at least Tuesday.   Snow levels seemed to have settled on the 4500/5000’ range for the weekend.

A high pressure system strengthening off of the California/Oregon coast will nudge its way north as the week progresses.  Wednesday through Friday should be fairly nice and mostly dry.

Pass level winds: moderate, westerly
Barometer: 1005mb’s and steady
Sky: OC
Radar:  Light precipitation falling in the mountains with heavy rain showers moving into the Puget Sound region  

The Forecast:  Moderate to heavy mixed rain and snow with falling temperatures will continue through the weekend.

Long Range:  The precipitation will continue through the middle of next week.
  
The Science: A seasonal westerly storm track is underway with several pulses of moisture poised to impact the PNW through the next 5-7 days.  Freezing levels will bounce between 4000’ and 6000’ as these systems move through.

There appears to be a break in the moisture next Thursday with a more active weather setting up for the following weekend.

Forecast confidence: Moderate to high.
