The Forecast:
Cool and calm today with sunshine. Increasing clouds tomorrow with heavy snow
starting tomorrow night.
The Science: Another relatively
quiet day (weather-wise anyways) is in store for today. North/northwesterly
upper level flow will bring continued cool temperatures and mostly clear skies
to the PNW.
Things get interesting Tuesday night as a strong warm front
approaches in westerly flow. Heavy precipitation in the form of snow will begin
after dark on Tuesday and continue on Wednesday. Temperatures will begin to
rise with the moisture on Tuesday but should remain favorable for snow thru
much of Wednesday. Further warming Wednesday afternoon and Thursday will occur
with a warmer airmass pushing out the cold air. Time will tell what the precip
type is Wednesday night.
Long Range: Impressive amounts of
precipitation will fall between Wednesday and Friday with the jet stream riding
over high pressure in the Pacific and taking aim at Washington State. Freezing
levels rise just above pass level Thursday, then fall again Friday so precip
type will likely be mixed at times in the base area. A strong cold front approaches
on Saturday bringing cooling and more snow.
Confidence: Good
for the next 36 hours. Poor for precip type the second half of the week but
good for impending active weather.
Values from 4am today through 4am
tomorrow.
