Below is a nice organized sat. image.  Notice the cold front along the coast pulling cold air from the NW (spotty "popcorn" clouds)   Then the long SW fetch of moisture trailing almost across the entire Pacific - and then, the tight low pressure cell spinning up the BC coast.   This is all fueling our winter storm today.
