MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day: 0930 Saturday

The Snapshot: We received the forecasted water of 1.02” all packed into 7” of snow- a good base layer.  Light snow showers will continue today with steady snow and rain developing tonight, rain likely below 4500’ tomorrow.  


The Science:  Another warm front approaching the region will produce another round of mixed precipitation tonight and tomorrow.  We will have to endure fickle freezing levels for a few more days as they bounce between 4000’ and 5000’ through early Monday morning. A cold front Monday morning will produce moderate snowfall in the mountains.  


4-7day Long Range: High pressure is expected to produce dry and partly sunny conditions on Tuesday.  Christmas day will be dry and partly cloudy.  Another frontal system enters the scene late next or early next weekend.

Water by 4am = .25 Snow equivalent = 1-3
 
Total inches of water by noon tomorrow = +.5
Total inches of snow by noon tomorrow =3-5
 
Trends and Timing:
 
Snow developing tonight changing to mixed rain and snow below 5000’ early around midnight.  Rain likely in the base tomorrow with snow on the upper ridges.  The rain should turn to moderate snow during the day on Monday.

Trend and Timing:
 
Westerly flow will be the general wind pattern through the middle of next week. Gusty frontal winds will be likely as these fronts move through.
