MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day: 0930 Sunday

The Snapshot: Snow changing to rain today.  Tomorrow will end with rain turning to snow, wind and lowering temperatures. 


The Science:  An approaching warm front will spread another round of moisture into the mountains today and tonight.  Rain can be expected throughout the resort.  A period of heavy rain changing to snow can be anticipated tomorrow as an approaching cold front drops in from the NW.   The timing of the when the cold front passes east of the mountains will influence on when the rain turns to snow.  With some luck, the higher ridges could get a foot of snow with less expected at Pass level. 


4-7day Long Range:  Snow showers linger into Tuesday with high pressure building.  Christmas day through weeks end will be dry, clear and warm.

Water by 4am = .5  Snow equivalent = 0-3
 
Total inches of water by noon tomorrow = 1”
Total inches of snow by noon tomorrow = 4-8”
 
Tend and Timing:
 
Rain on the lower mountain with mixed rain and snow up high today.  Heavy rain turning to snow after 4am tomorrow morning.   The snow line should be below Pass level around noon tomorrow.

Trend and Timing:
Freezing levels reach 5000’ today.  Temperatures will begin to fall tomorrow morning with freezing levels dropping below 4000’around midday.

Ridge Top:  10-20 W strengthening
 
Trend and Timing:
Westerly winds will increase tomorrow with approach of the cold front.
Watch for high ridge top winds gusting near 40mph tomorrow.  Winds diminish and shift NW on Tuesday.
