MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST


Time and Day: 0930 Friday

The Snapshot: Windy with gradually rising temperatures today; snow today changing to heavy rain tonight; heavy snow tomorrow.  

 
The Science:  A strong warm front will push into the mountains tonight rising freezing levels and producing heavy rain.   Heavy snow and falling temperatures are expected in the wake of acold front tomorrow.   Snow totals by Sunday morning are expected to be in the neighborhood of 15-24” or more.

 
4-7day Long Range:  Snow continues on Sunday with the start of the week trending dry as high pressure begins to form.

Water by 4am = 1   Snow equivalent = 2-4
 
24hr total inches of water ending at noon tomorrow = 1-2”
24hr total inches of snow ending at noon tomorrow = 4-8”
 
Trend and Timing:
We can expect 2-4” of additional snow today before it turns to rain tonight.  +1” of rain expected through the night changing to snow after 7am tomorrow morning.

Freezing level: 4000’       6000’  
 
Trends and Timing
Freezing levels rise to 4000’ this afternoon and continue ascending to 6000’ tonight.  Freezing levels drop below 4000’ after 7am tomorrow morning.

Trend and Timing:
A high wind event is expected this evening with gust above 50mph likely.  High winds can be expected through Sunday.
