MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST


Time and Day: 0900 Wednesday

The Snapshot: More mixed rain and snow today.  Falling temperatures, wind and measurable snow will greet us in the morning.  


The Science:  Several storms being aimed at the PNW by a strong jet stream will bring the full gambit of weather (snow, rain, wind) to the PNW through the weekend.  The first organized cold front arrives tonight with snow.   The general flow turns southerly on Thursday with freezing rising above 5000’ on Friday. 


4-7day Long Range:  The moisture series will continue through the weekend with heavy rain possible Friday night changing to snow on Saturday.   


Precipitation:
Water by 4am = .75 -1  Snow equivalent = 8-10
 
24hr total inches of water ending at noon tomorrow = 1
24hr total inches of snow ending at noon tomorrow = +-12
 
Trend and Timing:
Snow will intensify tonight as convergence conditions develop.  Snow briefly stops tomorrow afternoon with the next wave of moisture expected to reach the mountains tomorrow night for more snow.  
 
 
Base Temp and Freezing levels: 
Low: 24    High: 32
Freezing level: 4000’      3000’
 
Trends and Timing
Temperatures will hover near 32f for most of today.  Freezing levels fall below Pass level late tonight.    Freezing levels stick around 3500’ or so through Friday morning.
 
 
Winds (mph)
Base: 5-15 W
Ridge Top: 10-20 W
 
Trend and Timing:
Winds shift westerly tonight.  Winds with gusts +40mph can be anticipated tomorrow.  High ridge top winds will be an issue throughout this series of storms.
