MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day: 0900 Thursday


The Snapshot: Snow and wind will taper off in a few hours with potential sun break again this afternoon.  Tonight will be relatively quiet with snow again tomorrow.   


The Science:  The parade of fronts continues with the next system arriving early tomorrow morning and the next Saturday and then again on Sunday.  All have spikes in temperatures (4000’-5000’) and high winds associated with them, but the overall freezing level should remain low enough for most of precipitation to be snow.   Snow totals by the end of the weekend could exceed 2’ of additional snow.


4-7day Long Range:  The storms keep rolling through the region through the middle of next week.  The jet stream begins to move N during the next few days for a cooler NW flow pattern to start the new week.  It could be exceptional sliding next week.

Water by 4am =.25  Snow = 2-4
24hr total inches of water ending at noon tomorrow = .75
24hr total inches of snow ending at noon tomorrow = 5-8
 
Trend and Timing:
Snow will taper off this afternoon.   Snow will begin again during the early morning hours and persist through most of the day.

Freezing levels will continue to fluctuate between 3500’ and 4500’ with the passing of each front.

Base: 5-15  W shifting SE
Ridge Top: 10-20 W shifting SE
 
Trend and Timing:
Gusty westerly winds will begin to diminish this afternoon and then shift east southeast over night.   Winds will shift back to SW with the passing of the front tomorrow.   Expect periods of high winds throughout this storm cycle.
