MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day: 1100 Sunday


The Snapshot:   “Let the games begin, and may luck be always on our side.”

First, the UW Atmospheric Departmental web site is having an issue this morning, so current forecast models are delayed.   Light snow showers today with heavy snow expected tomorrow.   

 
The Science:  The first in several progressively stronger fronts will hit the PNW starting tomorrow.   Heavy snow expected tomorrow with freezing levels rising to 4000’.  The next front hits on Tuesday with slightly higher freezing levels and then another on Wednesday/Thursday.   

4-7day Long Range:  Storms will continue to pound the PNW throughout the week.   Rain is likely below 4500’ on Wednesday.   Long range models are not available at this time so we will have to wait until tomorrow for the most reliable information on the storms later in the week.

Water by 4am =.25  Snow =2-4
24hr total inches of water ending at noon tomorrow = .5
24hr total inches of snow ending at noon tomorrow = 3-6
 
Trend and Timing:
Light snow showers are expected to continue through early tomorrow morning.  Snow will intensify during the day tomorrow.

Trends and Timing
Temperatures will slowly rise through the next 24 hrs.  Freezing levels will reach 4000’ later tomorrow afternoon.

Ridge Top: 5-10 E shifting SW
 
Trend and Timing:
East flow will remain at the surface while winds aloft shift SW.    A high wind advisory will kick into effect tomorrow night with 50+mph winds accompanying the front.
