MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day: 0900 Sunday

The Snapshot:   Today expect rain changing to snow with dropping temperatures and strengthening NW winds.  We are still on track to have an outstanding powder day tomorrow.

 
The Science:  Unfortunately, yesterday frontals system stalled which slowed its arrival, hence the overnight and early morning rain.  Temperatures are beginning to fall as cooler air flows in from the NW.  The atmosphere will remain unstable as it cools down.  Snow will stay in the forecast through the first half of the week.  

 
4-7day Long Range:  Next’s week weather pattern will remain active with seasonally normal temperatures.

 

Precipitation:
Water by 4am = .5-.75 Snow = 6-8
24hr total inches of water ending at noon tomorrow = .75
24hr total inches of snow ending at noon tomorrow = 6-10  
 
Trend and Timing:
Moderate snow will continue through the night and begin to subside after 4am tomorrow.  Light snow showers will persist in the mountains through the day tomorrow.
 
 
Base Temp and Freezing levels: 
Low: 22   High: 30
Freezing level: 4500’    2000’
 
Trends and Timing
Freezing levels will continue to decline possibly reaching 2000’ by early tomorrow morning.  Freezing levels will then begin to rise to near 4000’ on Tuesday.
 
 
Winds (mph)
Base: 5-15 NW
Ridge Top: 10-20 NW
 
Trend and Timing:
NW winds will strengthen today and remain consistent through tomorrow.
