MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day: 0800 Monday

 
The Snapshot:  POWDER DAY.  5”overnight with 9” in the past 24hr.  Temperatures should stay cool toady with gusty winds along the ridge tops.  Might even see  the sun today.  

 
The Science:  A short lived high pressure ridge will create a break in the precipitation today.  Another frontal system enters the scene tomorrow with more snow and rising freezing levels.  Cool unstable NW flow will drive yet another system into the mountains on Wednesday/Thursday.    

 
4-7day Long Range:   The week will wrap up sunny and dry under building High pressure.

 

Precipitation:
16hr Water by 4am tomorrow = .25-.5  Snow = 2-5
24hr water by noon tomorrow = .5        Snow = 3-6
 
 
Trend and Timing:
Light snow showers will persist in the mountains today.  The next wave of moisture is expected to arrive in the mountains tomorrow morning. Most of the snow forecasted will occur during the day tomorrow.  
 
 
Base Temp and Freezing levels: 
Low: 22  High: 32
Freezing level: 2500’   4000’
 
Trends and Timing
Temperatures will stay below 26f through the day and night.  Freezing levels begin to rise tomorrow with the passing of the front.

Ridge Top: 10-20 WNW
 
Trend and Timing:
Winds will slowly diminish this afternoon and remain generally westerly tomorrow.
