MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day:  0930 Tuesday

The Snapshot:  Rain today changing to snow tonight then tapering off.  Dry for the rest of the week.

The Science:   A cold front will send a band of rain into the mountains today.  Cooler air filling in behind the front will lower temperatures and cut off the precipitation during the early morning hours.  High pressure re-builds tomorrow for another stretch of dry, but cool weather. 

4-7day Long Range:   The weekend will be dry with cool nights and warm sunny days.  A good formula for more spring corn snow.

Precipitation:
16hr Water by 4am tomorrow  = .5  Snow = 2-4
24hr water by noon tomorrow = .5-.75  Snow = 2-5

Trend and Timing:
 Light rain will begin today and intensify tonight.  The rain will change to snow but quickly taper off early tomorrow morning. Tomorrow will be mostly dry with light scattered snow showers in the morning.


Base Temp and Freezing levels: 
Low: 24  High: 42
Freezing level:  7000’    3000’

Trends and Timing
Freezing levels will quickly fall late tonight.   Temperatures will climb to near freezing tomorrow.

Ridge Top: 5-15 W

Trend and Timing:
Gusty ridge tops winds can be anticipated today with the passing of the front.  Winds taper off through the night.
