MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

0630 Saturday:

The Snapshot: Mostly dry with broken clouds today.  Snow tonight and tomorrow.  Snow changes to rain tomorrow night and continues into Monday.   

The Science:  A weak high-pressure ridge passing over the mountains today will produce a relatively quiet +12hrs of weather.   A vigorous storm approaching the coast will bring heavy snow to the Pass tomorrow.  Freezing levels are expected rise above 4000’ after 7pm and then 5000’ around midnight.  The change from yesterday is that temperatures are now expected to stay above freezing through Monday, so little to no snow below 5000’ on the back side of this system.  Rain totals from midnight Sunday through midnight Monday = +-2”.   

Long Range:  The precipitation ends early Tuesday morning with warm and dry weather developing.  Mixed rain and snow will be possible by the end of the week.

Today’s 24hr Water = .25  Snow = 1-3

Tomorrow’s 24hr Water = 2  Snow = 10-15+”

Trend and Timing:
Light snow begins after midnight tonight with the main bulk of snow hitting the mountains after 4am tomorrow morning.  With some luck with holding temps, and a nice convergence zone, 2’ of snow is possible, especially on the upper mountain.

Low: 20   High:  26
Freezing level: 2500’ -3000’

Trends and Timing:
With the aid of east flow, temperatures will remain in the mid 20’s through tomorrow evening.

Base: 0-5 W shifting E
Ridge Top: 0-5 W  shifting E

Trend and Timing:
Light westerly flow will shift easterly early tomorrow morning.  A high wind advisory will kick in tomorrow night/early Monday morning.
