MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day: 0730 Monday

The Snapshot:  What a nice coating of white this morning.  Snow tapering off today, more snow arrives late tomorrow night and continues into Wednesday, heavy rain on Friday changing to snow over the weekend.

The Science: A low-pressure system tracking through Oregon is spinning a nice circle of snow showers up into the Cascade this morning.  The barometric pressure has begun to rise which will eventually bring and end to the precipitation today.  The next frontal system enters the mountains late tomorrow night with moderate snow beginning early Wednesday morning.   8-14” of snow will be possible for Stevens Pass by the end of the day on Wednesday.

I will calculate storm totals for Wednesday with fresh models later today.

Long Range: Thursday will be in between systems with a warm front moving over the region on Friday.  Friday’s storm will have a southwest fetch of moisture and freezing levels in the 5500-6500’ range.  Thus expect moderate to heavy rain. Cooler air filters in on Saturday and Sunday with snow possible.

The NW jet stream will continue to drive storms into the PNW into next week.
