MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day: 0600 Thursday

The Snapshot:   Snow has begun to fall at Steven Pass.  Snow will continue through the day and taper off to this evening.  A few inches of snow will be possible tomorrow afternoon.  Winter storm advisory for the weekend.

The Science:  A triple point low-pressure system (a warm front, a cold front, and an occluded front all connecting in the center) will bring pulses of snow to Stevens Pass today.  Once the cold front passes east of the mountains this afternoon, the snow will taper to light showers.  Therefore, tonight will be relatively quiet with little additional snow.  Another pulse of moisture tracking south of Stevens Pass tomorrow could provide a few more inches before the big weekend game starts.

Long Range:  The game begins Saturday as another strong triple point low-pressure system approaches.  Storm totals are currently around 12-18” of snow by the end of the day on Sunday.  More winter storms are starting to develop for continued excitement next week.
