MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day: 0630 Saturday

The Snapshot:  Heavy snow tonight, mixed rain and snow tomorrow, rain to start the week.  

The Science: This morning’s radar has the leading edge of the approaching storm just entering the Puget Sound region and should reach the mountains in a few hours.  Freezing levels are currently 3500’.  With the aid of cool easterly winds, the temperatures should be in favor for snow through midnight or so.  Another front hits the mountains tomorrow morning bring rising freezing levels and more mixed precipitation.  

This system is packing a punch with 5 -10” of water falling in the Olympics and northern coast by Monday morning.  Flood warnings are in effect for western Washington.  The North Central Cascades could receive several feet of snow above 5000’.  

Long Range:  Heavy rain with periods of mixed snow is expected Monday through Wednesday morning.  Cooler NW flow with storms in tow will begin to affect the PNW late next week.

Today’s 24hr Water = +- 1”   Snow =  8-12

Tomorrow’s 24hr Water = .5 -.75 Snow =  2-5

Trend and Timing:
Snow should begin mid-morning and intensify through the day.  Periods of mixed rain will be possible.   


24hr temperature ending at 4 am tomorrow: 
Low: 26 High: 34
Freezing level: +- 4000’ -5000.'

Trends and Timing:
Surface temperatures will slowly climb to near 320 through the next 24hrs. 
Freezing levels are expected to notch up to 4500’ or 5000’ starting early tomorrow morning.

East flow will continue today and shift SW tomorrow.
