MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day: 0630 Tuesday

The Snapshot:  Mostly dry today with snow developing this afternoon.  Snow and some wind tonight, drying and clearing tomorrow.  This active weather pattern will continue into early next week.

The Science:  A low pressure system developing off of the Oregon coast will track north today, bringing with it, and cold front and some snow for Stevens Pass tonight.  Once the center of the low makes it east of the state, winds will shift westerly.  There will be a short-lived Puget Sound Convergence possibility after midnight for some enhanced snow fall.   Snow quickly diminishes tomorrow with light showers and sun breaks. 

The Long Range:  A strong warm front, with a long southwest fetch of moisture, will enter the scene late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.  Freezing levels with this system are currently reading around 5500’-6000’, so expect some rain to be in the conversation.  The weekend appears to be mostly dry with another system arriving early next week.

Today 24hr water = .25-.5 Snow = 2-5

Tomorrow’s 24hr water = .25 snow = 1-3

Trend and Timing:
Snow begins late this afternoon and will continue through the night.  Snow diminishes tomorrow.   Westerly flow could enhance snow totals during the early morning hours.

Freezing levels are inching down today and will hover in the 3000’ range through tomorrow.

Ridge Top: 5-10 E shifting W and strengthening

Trend and Timing:
Easterly winds will shift westerly late tonight.  Gusty ridge top winds can be expected during tomorrow’s early morning hours.
