MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day: 0700 Sunday

The Snapshot:  Wind and rain today and tomorrow.   The main feature will be the wind; gusts could top +50mph with sustained winds of +20pmh through the night.

The Science:  As luck would have it, the main bulk of moisture tracked just south of Stevens Pass last night leaving .75” of water and 6” of snow for 24hr totals.  

Current satellite imagery has the widespread precipitation moving through Puget Sound with moderate to heavy rain expected to increase in the mountains through the day. 48hr storm totals could exceed 4” of water.

As for the wind, pressure gradients will tighten along the western slopes of the mountains as the front(s) approaches; models have 5000’ winds cranking around 60knot starting around 7 pm tonight and lasting through early tomorrow morning.  

The Long Range:  Except for a few minor breaks here and there, this warm and wet weather pattern will continue for most of the up- coming week.  

Precipitation Ending at 4am:

Today 24hr water = 1-2 Snow = 0

Tomorrow’s 24hr water = 1-1.25 snow = 0

Trend and Timing:
Light rain this morning changing to heavy rain this afternoon.

Freezing levels have risen to 5000’ this morning and will peak around 6000’ this afternoon.

Ridge Top: 15-30+ W

Trend and Timing:
The winds are already starting to pick up along the ridge tops.  Post frontal winds could top 50mph tonight through early tomorrow morning.
