MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day: 0700 Monday

The Snapshot: Close to 3” of rain has fallen overnight with more on the way.  Gusty winds will also continue through the day.   The precipitation diminishes to scattered showers tomorrow with more rain on Wednesday/ Thursday.    

The Science:  This morning’s radar is lit up with more heavy precipitation heading into the mountains.  A weak cold front will move across the northern portion of the state early tomorrow morning; dropping freezing levels and providing a bit of snow before the moisture begins to diminish.   Light scattered showers tomorrow with some clearing can be anticipated.

The Long Range:  A fairly large low-pressure system with cooler air in tow will bring another round of rain on Wednesday/Thursday.   Temperatures drop on the back side of this system with snow possible heading into the weekend.  Stay tuned as those details become more reliable.

Precipitation Ending at 4am:

Today 24hr water = +2” Snow = 1-4

Tomorrow’s 24hr water =.25 -.5  snow = 1-3

Trend and Timing:
Heavy rain continues through tonight.  Rain turns to mixed snow and then tapers to light showers tomorrow morning.  Light passing rain showers with partial clearing can also be expected tomorrow.

Freezing level: +6000’ – 4500’

Trend and Timing:   
Temperatures will remain warm today.  A small pocket of colder air will allow freezing levels to drop temporarily to 4500’ or lower tomorrow morning.   Freezing levels will then rise again on Wednesday.

Ridge Top: 5-20 W gust +40 possible

Trend and Timing:
The wind hasn’t been as strong as models thought, but will remain gusty through the day as well.
