MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day: 0630 Wednesday

The Snapshot:  One more warm and rainy day before it begins to cool and the snow returns.   Snow tomorrow with a possible powder day taking shape for Friday and Saturday.

The Science:  The barometer is dropping as a fairly large low-pressure system develops just offshore.  Several fronts will work their way into the region during the next several days and eventually pull in a cooler air mass by the weekend.  In the meantime, the freezing levels will fluctuate between 3500’ and 4500’ for the remainder of the week.   

The Long Range:   Snow Thursday night and Friday with cooling will set up a nice snow event heading into the weekend.  Warmer and dry weather begins early next week.

Precipitation Ending at 4am:

Today 24hr water = +.5 Snow = 2-4

Tomorrow’s 24hr water = .5-.75 snow = 6-8

Trend and Timing:
Rain showers increase this afternoon with rain turning to snow (ish) during the early morning hours.  Snow tomorrow night into early Friday morning.

Low: 32    High: 44
Freezing level:  5500’  - 4000’

Trend and Timing:   
Freezing levels will peak near 6000’ this afternoon and then fall to around 4000’ tonight.   Temperatures will be on a slow cooling trend as the weekend approaches.

Base: 0-5 E shifting W
Ridge Top: 5-10 ESE shifting SW

Trend and Timing:
East flow at the surface will shift WSW tonight.
