MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

 

Time and Day: 0630 Thursday

The Snapshot: Rain switched to snow around midnight last night, giving Stevens Pass 3" by 4am. Light snow showers today with moderate snow tonight.  

The Science: A low pressure trough is currently moving ashore north of the OR/WA border. As it moves NE, strengthening westerly winds behind it will bring orographic snow showers tonight through Friday morning. The next, negatively tilted, upper level trough will bring a strong cold front across our forecast area Friday night.

The Long Range: After Friday night's frontal passage, snow showers will end mid-day Saturday with cool temperatures. A break from the active weather will be seen Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning before another front arrives Sunday afternoon. Drier weather developing starting Monday.

Trend and Timing:
Light snow showers today turning to moderate snow this afternoon and overnight. Precipitation should be heaviest between 10pm and 2am Friday.

Freezing level:  4000’ - 3500’

Trend and Timing:
Freezing level will be at or below pass level all day, with a brief bump in temperatures this afternoon as a pocket of warm air moves across the forecast area. Temperatures cooling by Friday morning.
