MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day: 0630  Sunday

The Snapshot:   Just another late March powder day.  Windy with moderate to heavy snow showers today.  Snow ends tomorrow with dry and clear weather developing.   Enjoy the snow while it lasts.

The Science:  A cold front passed east of the crest around 2 am this morning with the good westerly flow just now starting to strengthen.  The Puget Sound Convergence Zone is expected to set up this morning keeping the snow showers moving through Stevens Pass for most of the day.  Ridge top winds will also strengthen but shouldn’t be a show-stopper.  The precipitation will taper off tomorrow as high pressure begins to build.

The Long Range:  The PNW will begin to dry (melt) out next week.  Daytime temperatures could reach into the 50’s with abundant sunshine by the middle of the week.  Seattle temperatures could touch 70 by the end of the week.

Precipitation Ending at 4am:

Today 24hr water = .75 -1   Snow = 8-10

Tomorrow’s 24hr water =  .25 snow = 2-4

Trend and Timing:
The convergence zone will point towards Stevens this morning and then shift south toward Snoqualmie later today.  Showers persist through the night.

24hr temperature ending at 4 am tomorrow:

Low: 28    High: 32
Freezing level: +- 3500’

Trend and Timing:
Freezing levels will fall to around 3000’ through the day.  A warmer air mass begins to invade tomorrow.

24hr Winds (mph) ending at 4 am tomorrow:
Base:  5-10 W gusty
Ridge Top: 10-15 W  gust

Trend and Timing:
Westerly flow will persist this morning and then begin to diminish this evening.
