MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day:  0900 Sunday

The Snapshot:  Mixed rain and snow showers today.  More storms with snow potential on the way next week.

The Science:  A low pressure system tracking north over the offshore waters will spin bands of moisture into the mountains today and tomorrow.  Warm air advection will begin invade along the western slopes of the Cascades today; this will bump freezing levels +- 5000’ this afternoon.   There will be a break in the action tomorrow with the next frontal system arriving on Tuesday. 

The Long Range:  The next +-7 days will be very active with several storms heading towards the PNW.  This incoming storm cycle is riding on a NW jet stream which, at the moment, has freezing level in favor of snow.  Stay tuned as usual.

Trend and Timing:
Intermittent showers will continue today with rain below 4500’ and mixed precipitation types on the upper ridges.

Temperatures will inch up into the mid to lower 30’s today. Cooler air arrives tomorrow night.

 East flow will gradually shift southerly then westerly over the next 24hrs.
