Time and Day: 0730 Thursday
The Snapshot: Light
snow showers today and cool temperatures. Warming Friday with moderate snow,
potentially rain at pass level Friday night.
The Science: 9” in the last 24 hours, with 3”
overnight and a cooling trend should make for great skiing today. The last gasp
of convergence snow showers are putting a nice touch on yesterday’s front this
morning. Cool NNW upper level flow will bring light snow showers and low
temperatures to Stevens Pass today.
Warmer upper air will begin to enter the forecast area
overnight. A warm front will approach Stevens Pass on Friday, and should cross
the Cascade crest Friday afternoon and evening. There is no east flow in the
models currently to insulate Stevens Pass, and freezing levels look to rise
briefly to around 4500’. Friday’s snow totals will likely vary widely from the
base area to the upper mountain.
The Long Range: With some luck, the warmup will be
brief Friday night and post frontal cooling will bring snow levels below pass
level Saturday morning. Strong, cool, zonal flow kicks in behind the warm front
with a decent shot of moisture. Moderate snow should develop Saturday and
become heavy Saturday night and Sunday. Models currently have this storm
bringing 12+” by Sunday morning.
Precipitation Ending at 4am:
Today 24hr water = .10-.25 Snow = 2”
Tomorrow’s 24hr water = .5-.75 Snow = 4-6” (on upper mountain)
Trend and Timing:
