Time and Day: 0630
Wednesday
The Snapshot: A few more dry and cold days before a
prolonged warming trend begins; moisture enters the scene late Saturday night or
Sunday.
The Science: While
the southern half of the State gets snow, the northern half is cold and beginning
to clear. The moisture will continue to
drift south into Oregon today as high pressure builds off of the NW coast. Freezing
levels will slowly begin to rise as warm air drifts up the western slopes in
response to the easing and rising pressure gradients. The next few mornings will continue to be cold
and clear, but the days should warm up nicely into the mid 20’s or so.
The Long Range: The focus turns to the weekend with the jet
stream shifting its pattern to a warmer west /southwest orientation. Strong SW flow will scour out the cold air
with moisture entering the mountains late Saturday night or Sunday. Long-range models have freezing levels
rising above 4500’ early next week.
