MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day: 0630 Friday

The Snapshot:  One more beautiful morning before a slow change to warmer and wetter weather begins.  Stevens Pass will remain relatively dry, but warmer, through most of the Holiday weekend.   Heavy rain is expected Monday night through Wednesday morning.

The Science:  High clouds and warmer air aloft has begun to filter in with temperatures on the upper mountain and along the western slopes in the 20’s.  The temperature inversion will slowly flip as warm southerly flow erodes the cold air trapped in the eatern basin.

The strong high pressure system stationed over the Inland NW will continue to block the incoming moisture through most of the weekend.   Therefore expect Stevens Pass to remain mostly dry into MLK day.

The Long Range: The main moisture event is now timing out to arrive sometime Monday afternoon.  5-7000’ freezing levels are expected with heavy precipitation.

NOTE:  A major rain on snow event Monday night into Tuesday is likely.  High freezing levels with several pulses of moisture will be a part of the equation through the middle of next week.
