MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day: 1000 Thursday

The Snapshot: Snow showers will persist through the weekend with a return to average PNW temperatures and precipitation.   Next week will trend dry and clear.

The Science:  The lesson for yesterday's “rain’ event – don’t underestimate the power of east flow, even if the models don’t agree.    Moving on.

A series of low-pressure troughs offshore, coupled with a high pressure ridge setting up over the interior, will allow passing snow showers with clear periods to move through the mountains for the remainder of the week.   Freezing levels will settle on a consistent elevation somewhere around the 2500’-3000’ range for the next several days.

The Long Range:  This showery pattern will likely persist through the weekend.   The storms head south early next week with a ridge of high pressure building over the PNW.
