MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day: 0700Monday

The Snapshot:  Cold, clear and windy weather develops today and persists through most for the week.   The winds will be the featured topic with well below 0 wind chill temperatures likely.

The Science:   140 at the base, 90 at Tye Mill with gusty ridge top winds and clear skies this morning.

The low-pressure system that brought us the amazing powder yesterday is slowly drifting south.  Cold, dry air streaming in from the northeast will continue to drop temperatures and dry out the atmosphere.  The low-pressure cell to the south is expected to stall and strengthen over the next few days; this will allow steady, strong offshore flow to persist.  5000’ wind gust could top 30mph - that’s wind chills temperatures of -200 f or lower.  Frostbite times are less than 15minutes.

The Long Range:   This cold dry windy weather will last most of the week with warmer marine air arriving over the weekend.
