Mountain Weather Forecast

Time and Day: 0730 Sunday

The Snapshot: Warming temperatures and sunny skies today and tomorrow.

The Science: Building high pressure over the West Coast will dominate the weather today and tomorrow. Light east flow through the passes will create an inversion layer (currently 10 degrees colder in base area). As the ridge axis moves over Washington on Monday, temperatures and freezing levels will rise further. The ridge progresses east on Tuesday, opening the door to the next interesting weather event.

The Long Range: Most of Tuesday should be dry before increasing clouds move in Tuesday afternoon. A warm SW fetch of moisture should begin to affect the PNW Tuesday night. Heavy rain at high (~7k) freezing levels looks likely for Wednesday/Thursday. A cold front is indicated to push through on Friday bringing a return to snow. Details and precip amounts are a moving target right now, stay tuned.
