MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day:  0730 Monday

The Snapshot:  Clear skies over Steven Pass this morning with sunshine slated for the day.  Mostly dry tomorrow with increasing clouds and rain for Wednesday and Thursday.

The Science: High pressure centered over the inland NW will provide clear, dry and warm weather for the mountains today and most of tomorrow. 

Clouds begin to roll in tomorrow as a strong warm front tracks up from the south.   Models have the leading edge of the rain band entering the mountains around midnight tomorrow with rain expected for most of the day on Wednesday.   Freezing levels west of the crest are 8000’ with 5000’ freezing levels to the east.  There will be east flow associated with this storm but no cold air available for snow. An inch or more of rain will be likely on Wednesday.

The Long Range:   The rain diminishes on Thursday with a weak cold front expected to swing through on Friday.  At this point in the game, just light snow showers are expected on Friday and Saturday.

Trend and Timing:
Dry today and most of tomorrow.  Rain enters the mountains late tomorrow night or early Wednesday morning.

Trend and Timing:   
Freezing levels will rise to 5000’ today and remain high through Thursday morning.  Freezing levels will peak +-7000’ tomorrow afternoon.

Weak east flow at the surface with southerly flow aloft will be the flow pattern through tomorrow.
