MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day:  Tuesday 0730

The Snapshot: Mostly dry today with increasing clouds, rain tomorrow with rain switching to snow showers on Thursday.  Light snow showers are expected to persist through the weekend.

The Science:  This morning’s radar has rain falling just off shore of the Olympic coast and clear skies over the Cascade Mountains.  The expected warm front will slowly track NE over the next 12-24hrs bringing rain to the mountains tomorrow.  A cold front will swing through early Thursday morning, lowering freezing levels and shifting the rain to intermittent snow showers.

The Long Range:  A weak low-pressure system passes through on Saturday with a ridge of high pressure developing on Sunday.  Therefore, expect snow showers Friday and Saturday with clearing on Sunday.

Today 24hr water = .25 Snow = 0
Tomorrow’s 24hr water = .5-1 snow = 1-3

Trend and Timing:
 Rain begins around 10 pm tonight and switches to snow early Thursday morning.

Freezing level: 4500’ – 6500’

Trend and Timing:   
Freezing levels will peak this afternoon and then fall below 4000’ by mid-morning tomorrow.
