Mountain Weather Forecast

Time and Day: 0715 Sunday

The Snapshot: Light snow today, ending tonight. Moderate to briefly heavy snow tomorrow afternoon/evening.

The Science: 3” overnight should help conditions a bit. A shortwave low pressure trough should swing over Washington today bringing light snow showers throughout the day. Upper level SW flow will be in place behind the trough this afternoon, with another trough and cold front approaching the area Monday. Snow should begin in earnest Monday afternoon becoming moderate/heavy Monday evening before tapering down after midnight.

The Long Range: After the cold front passage Monday night, the PNW should be under a large, cold trough of air for the middle and end of next week. Embedded west flow should maintain moderate snow Tuesday and Wednesday. 72 hour snow totals ending Thursday morning should be around 16”.  Thursday and Friday currently look cold and dry.


Precipitation Ending at 4am:

Today 24hr water = .25 Snow = 2-4”

Tomorrow’s 24hr water = .75 Snow = 8”

Trend and Timing:
Light snow tapering this morning, increasing Sunday afternoon, tapering again by 10pm Sunday night. Monday should start out dry with snow beginning by noon and becoming moderate to heavy at times through Monday evening. Tapering to light snow through Tuesday morning.

Trend and Timing:   
Temperatures will bounce around a bit Sunday with daytime warming and as various airmasses move through the area. Cooling should begin Sunday night with sharp cooling Monday night.

Ridge Top: SE-SW 10-20

Trend and Timing:
 East flow should ease Sunday afternoon as the trough swings through, then pick up again Monday morning.
