Time and Day: 0700
Thursday
The Snapshot: A beautiful sunrise with mountain alpenglow
greets the day with clouds moving in later. Snow arrives tomorrow and continues
through the weekend.
The Science: Cold (currently 60 f) temperatures
with gusty easterly winds will continue today. Clouds begin
to move in later this afternoon in response to the strong low-pressure storm
system approaches the region from the SW.
The embedded warm
front is expected to pass over the mountain early tomorrow morning, bringing
with it, rising freezing levels and moderate precipitation. Snow should begin around 4 am tomorrow with strong east flow holding
surface temperatures below freezing. Steady snowfall
is expected through most of the weekend with high
freezing levels (4-5000’) to the west battling the colder air to the
east. Watch out for the freezing rain
potential. Storm totals below.
The Long Range: Another strong pulse of warm SW air will move
in on Sunday. This could briefly push
freezing levels up to 5000’ with a short period of rain possible late Sunday. A cold front follows Monday morning which
will allow snow showers and lowering freezing levels to start the new week.
