MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day: 0630 Tuesday

The Snapshot:  The snow has moved out for the time being.  You might want to get your powder fix in today or tomorrow, rain will be a possibility on Thursday.

The next storm is due to arrive tomorrow afternoon with heavy precipitation expected tomorrow night and Thursday.  A prolonged drying trend begins this weekend.   

The Science:  Snow totals = 2” overnight, 8” during the last 24hrs, with the 4 day storm total of over 40”.   Clear skies are now being observed over Steven Pass.  Nice snow report Harlan.   The next 24-36hrs will be mostly dry with partial clearing under a weak high pressure ridge.

The next storm to turn our attention to arrives tomorrow afternoon.  A very strong, moist, frontal system tracking up from the SW will bring another round of heavy precipitation and rising freezing levels to Stevens Pass. 

The cold east flow vs the westerly warm air war will be battled again.  Models have freezing levels rising to 5000’ early Thursday morning which could result in a period of heavy rain.   This system is packing a punch with 2-3” of water possible between 4pm tomorrow and 4am Friday morning.   

The Long Range:  The precipitation tapers off on Friday with the weekend trending, dry, clear and warm as high pressure builds over the PNW.

Today 24hr water = .10  Snow = trace
Tomorrow’s 24hr water = 1+ snow = 10-15

Trend and Timing:
There may be a chance of a light snow shower or two today.   Heavy snow begins after 2pm tomorrow turning to mixed rain after midnight.

Freezing level: +-1000’

Trend and Timing:   
Freezing levels will remain low today with east flow influence keeping surface temperatures in the upper teens.
