MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day:  1000 Wednesday

The Snapshot:  In like a Lion.  Snow will lighten up today and ramp back up tomorrow and Friday.   There should be plenty of snow to play with through the weekend.

The Science:  Pressure gradient will weaken a bit today which will shift the snow to light showers this afternoon.   However, good convergence zonal flow could provide periods of intense showers throughout the day.  A cold front developing in the Gulf of Alaska will push the next batch moisture in tomorrow with heavy snow expected tomorrow and Friday.  The leading edge of the Friday’s cold front is not expected to move east of the Cascades until late in the day.  Therefore, temperatures will be near freezing through most of Friday.

The Long Range:  The snow machine will keep right on cranking through the weekend and likely into early next week.

Precipitation Ending at 4am:
Today 24hr water = .5  snow = 4-7
Tomorrow’s 24hr water = .75-1  snow = 8-14

Trend and Timing:
The snow is expected to shift to intermittent showers today with snow intensifying during the day tomorrow.

24hr temperature ending at 4 am tomorrow:
Low: 28    High: 32
Freezing level: 3500’-4000’

Trend and Timing:
Freezing levels have reached 3500’ and will bounce between 3500 and 4000’ through tomorrow.   Surface temperatures should be fairly constant with the exception of some peak day warming.

24hr Winds (mph) ending at 4 am tomorrow:
Base: 5-10 W
Ridge Top: 5-15 W

Trend and Timing:
Winds will begin to weaken through the day with westerly flow continuing for the remainder of the week.
