MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day: 0700 Monday

The Snapshot:   Increasing rain today, rain continues tomorrow and Wednesday, and snow finishes out the week with cooler temperatures.

The Science:  While the Northeast portion of the country gets pummeled by a late winter blizzard, the PNW has a warm moist air mass moving in.  A strong triple front system, with a long SW fetch of moisture, is currently stationed offshore and will slowly move inland today.   Freezing levels are, and will remain, above 5000’ through the middle of the week. The pressure gradients ease a bit tomorrow which will back off the precipitation a little, rain picks back up on Wednesday with the arrival of the next front.

The Long Range:  The good news.   A cold front moves in on Thursday, dropping freezing levels and providing some fresh snow heading into the weekend.
