MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day: 0730 Wednesday
 
Snap Shot.  Light rain today, changing to snow tonight.  Snow tapers off tomorrow with some clear periods possible, active weather returns for the weekend.

The Science:  1.42” if water dumped on the snow pack over the last 24hrs with temperatures peaking around 420f yesterday. 

A weak cold front passed east of the crest a few hours ago which will begin to slowly drop temperatures through the day.   Cooler air aloft and unstable westerly flow will keep precipitation moving through the state into tomorrow.  A high pressure ridge tracking in will diminish the snow with clear period’s tomorrow night and part of Friday.

The Long Range:   A crazy weather event of snow Friday night changing to moderate rain on Saturday and then to a heavy snow Saturday night is in the works.  Details and timing are still in questions so stay tuned.   The PNW will begin to dry out early next week as high pressure begins to build.

Today 24hr water = .75 snow = 2-5
Tomorrow’s 24hr water = .25 snow = 1-3

Rain continues today and slowly shifts to snow tonight.

Freezing level: 5000’ – 3000’

Trend and Timing:   
Freezing levels have dropped to around 5000’ and are expected to drop below 4000’ late tonight.

Ridge Top: 5-15 W gusty

Trend and Timing:
Watch for some gusty ridge top frontal winds tonight. Wind shift southerly tomorrow.
