Mountain Weather Forecast

Time and Day: 0700 Saturday

The Snapshot: Rain turning to snow today, sunny and dry Sunday and Monday.

The Science: 7” of snow yesterday evening before it turned to rain around midnight last night. Light rain will continue this morning until a cold front sweeps across Northern Washington midday. With the frontal passage temperatures will drop, westerly winds will increase, and there will be moderate snow for Stevens Pass in convergence showers.

Snow will taper off overnight, ending by Sunday morning. High pressure builds in behind the trough, bringing dry weather and clearing skies on Sunday. Temperatures will begin to rise again Sunday, with freezing levels reaching 5,000 Monday with mostly sunny skies. Spring arrives a bit early.

The Long Range: After a couple sunny days, low pressure develops in the Pacific and approaches Oregon on Tuesday. This will direct warm southerly flow and moisture across the PNW. Snow levels look to start above Pass level Tuesday morning, but lower by Wednesday. Stay tuned.

Temperature and snow level should fall dramatically during the day and overnight Saturday.

Winds will increase with the frontal passage and remain moderate and gusty during the day Saturday, tapering down overnight.
