MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day: Friday 10:00

The Snapshot:   Heavy snow today with cooling temperatures tonight, snow showers persist through the weekend.

The Science:  A strong cold front will swing through this evening dropping freezing levels and shifting the precipitation to snow showers overnight.  A warm moist airmass ahead of the front will produce heavy orographic snowfall this afternoon and evening.  Convergence Zone conditions will form behind the front which will keep snow showers pumping through the Pass tomorrow.

The Long Range:  Snow showers and cold temperatures will continue through the weekend with a warm SW flow entering the region on Tuesday.

Today 24hr water =.75+ snow = 8-10
Tomorrow’s 24hr water = .5-.57  snow = 5-8

Trend and Timing:
Heavy snow today diminishing to showers early tomorrow morning.  Moderate snow shower continues tomorrow.


24hr temperature ending at 4 am tomorrow: 
Low: 16    High: 34
Freezing level: 4000’- 1000’

Trend and Timing:   
Temperatures start to fall after 4 pm today with freezing levels falling below 4000’ after 7 pm.   Freezing levels could fall as low as 500’ by early tomorrow morning.

Base: 5-10 WSW shifting W
Ridge Top: 5-15 WSW shifting W

Trend and Timing:
Southwesterly winds will shift westerly in the wake of the front late tonight.
