Mountain Weather Forecast

Day and Time: Wednesday 0800

The Snapshot: Light mixed rain and snow today, a brief break overnight and continued light precip (rain/snow mix) Thursday.

The Science: The stalled warm front is sitting just inside the coastline this morning with the parent low stretched out into the Gulf of Alaska. This is directing warm and soggy southerly flow across the West Coast. Precipitation rates should be on the lighter side Wednesday, but constant during the day. East flow at Pass level is bringing wet snow this morning in the base area. There will be a lull in precip Wednesday night, and then the front will finally shift further inland Thursday morning. Renewed post frontal showers will occur during the day Thursday, although water amounts are rather light. There may be a few snowflakes mixed in on Thursday as well.

The Long Range:  A series of low pressure centers will move across Washington beginning Friday and lasting through the weekend. These will bring colder air aloft and moderate snow. Snow levels should be below Pass level Saturday and Sunday.

24hr Precipitation ending at 4am:
Today 24hr water = .25-.5  snow = 1-3”
Tomorrow’s 24hr water = .25 snow = 1-2"

Trend and Timing:
Light rain/snow today with a couple of inches of wet snow possible on the upper mountain. Showers should taper off overnight Wednesday and begin again Thursday morning. Light mixed rain/snow during the day Thursday.

24hr temperature ending at 4am:
Low: 30    High: 35
Freezing level: 5000' +/-

Trend and Timing:
Free air freezing levels will remain steady, with snow level oscillating between 4000-5500' as east flow varies.

Winds Sunday-Tuesday:
Base: E 5-10, then W 0-5
Ridge Top: ESE 10-20

Trend and Timing:
East flow will switch over to westerly at Pass level during the day Wednesday.
