10" of snow

With the new blanket of snow on the ground at the Pass, I guess it is time to jump into the season forecast game.   More regular detailed forecast will begin next week.

Time and Day: 4:00 pm Friday

The Snapshot:  Snow diminishing to light showers, a drying trend begins tonight with some light rain and rising freezing levels starting tomorrow afternoon.  Warm and dry weather develops over the weekend with heavy rain expected next week.

The Science:  The snow was produced by our friend the Puget Sound Convergence Zone which has ended.  A large warm airmass will drift east over the next few days with rising freezing levels and mostly dry conditions developing.  8-10,000’ freezing levels can be expected on Sunday with high temperatures in the 50’s on Monday.  Most of the active weather gets shoved north as the large high pressures system, currently, off of the west coast, moves east and flattens.

The Long Range:  A weak cold front moves in on Tuesday with moderate rain likely.  A warm SW fetch of moisture enters the scene on Wednesday - as of now, this looks very wet.  I guess the typical PNW fall wet weather pattern has begun.
