Time and Day: 0930 Wednesday
The Snapshot: It is 370 f and lightly raining on
the lower mountain this morning; 31f degrees with light snow, it is still windy on
the upper ridges. The light rain will
change to light snow showers throughout the day with some measurable snow
likely tomorrow and Friday.
The Science:
Last night’s little down
valley wind event was the first indication of the change in the air. The barometer is on its descent with clouds and
light precipitation rolling in.
The cold front is still
well to the north but descending south fairly quickly. The temperatures will drop through the day
with the rain changing to snow. The main
snow event will be tomorrow with freezing levels falling below 4000’. Depending on a few factors such as frontal
speed, wind orographic durations, there could be +10” of fresh snow on the
ground by Friday afternoon.
The Long Range:
Snow begins to diminish on Friday with a
few showers lingering into the weekend. Sunday
and Monday will be mostly dry with sun breaks.
Another system is taking
shape for around Wednesday of next week.
This storm has a warmer and wetter (SW) component. There is potential for some good base making
snow with this system. This is still really far out so the details are suspect.

Today 24hr water: .25 snow: 1-3
Tomorrow’s 24hr water: .75 snow: 6-8
Trend and Timing:
Light rain showers turning to snow
