MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day:  0630 Thursday

The Snapshot:  Dry today with clouds moving in, light snow shows up tomorrow with moderate snow expected on Sunday.  There could be some powder to play in early next week. 

The Science

Current Observations: According to Jack’s early morning snow report, it is clear with high clouds on the upper mountain and fogging in the base area.  The temperature is 24f degrees, the RH is 94% and the barometer is 1027mb’s and beginning to fall.  The winds are easterly 5-10mph.  

The Forecast:  The expected change is underway –yah!  Westerly flow developing tonight should bring an end to the inversion layer and allow moisture to begin to track in.  The first cold front arrives tomorrow morning with another storm making its way in late Saturday night or early Sunday morning.  These storms will start out on the weak side with just a few inches of snow heading into Sunday morning. 
    
The Long Range:  There is now good potential to have significant snow on Sunday’s and then again on Tuesday.  Confidence in those details is still a bit shaky so stay tuned.

Light snow arrives after 4 am tomorrow morning with snow showers persisting into Saturday.

Freezing levels will spike up to 7000’ late tonight and then fall to 4000’ by sun-up tomorrow.

Westerly flow is expected to take over late tonight and strengthen tomorrow.
