MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day: 1200 Tuesday

The Snapshot:  POWDER.

The Science

Current Observations:  1.09” of water and 13” of snow has fallen since 4 pm yesterday.  The temperature is 28of , the RH is 100% and the barometer is 1001mb’s and falling.  The wind is easterly and light.  The radar has a cold front stationed just offshore with a steady stream of moisture out ahead of it.    

The Forecast:  The cold front is expected to pass east of the mountains sometime this afternoon.  Once that happens the winds will shift westerly and the freezing levels will begin to fall.  The snow will slowly diminish through the night and end around daybreak tomorrow. 

The Long Range:   A dry and cold weather pattern begins tomorrow and will likely continue through the holiday weekend.

Today 24hr water:1-1.25  snow: 10-14
Tomorrow’s 24hr water: .25   snow: 1-3

Trend and Timing:
Heavy snow will continue through early tomorrow morning.  Snow tapers off after 4am.

Freezing level: 3500’ – 1500’

Trend and Timing:   
Freezing levels will fall tonight with cold air settling in.

Trend and Timing:
The winds will shift westerly with the passing of the front later today.  Temporary frontal winds can be expected tonight.  Winds taper off and shift NE tomorrow.
