MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day: 0700 Tuesday

The Snapshot:  Sunny and a bit warmer today.  This dry, clear weather with continued warming will stick around through the upcoming weekend.

The Science

Current Observations:
It is very clear this morning with the base area temperature in the lower 20’s and the mercury on the upper mountain reading 280f .  The RH is 92% and the barometer is at 1029mb and still climbing. The winds shifted easterly around midnight last night and are blowing 5-10mph.

The Forecast:
The high pressure will continue to strengthen today along with the warm southerly flow.  Downslope east winds being pulled through the Pass will help keep surface temperatures in the lower 30’s.   However, sun breaks could push temperatures into the high 30’s or even 40 on the upper mountain. The inversion cloud layer will be patchy and more to the east today.

The strong southerly flow will eventually erode the cool air trapped in the eastern basin and slowly raise the freezing levels over the entire region in the next few days.

The Long Range:
High pressure is expected to dominate the weather pattern through the upcoming weekend.
