MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day: 0700 Friday

The Snapshot:  More of the same today;  morning fog with clear conditions on the upper mountain.

The Science

Current Observations: Cold this morning with the temperature spread of 180f  in the base area and a reading of  340f  at the Tye Mill telemetry site. The RH is 94%  and the barometer is holding steady at 1032mb.  The east winds are starting to weaken but are still gusting 10mph or so through the Pass.

The Forecast:  The temperature inversion layer has settled in and will likely continue for the next few days.  The models seem to be coming around to keeping the east flow intact at least through the weekend.  That is good news in helping preserve the snowpack.

The Long Range:  The high pressure stationed over the PNW will stay put through the weekend. There are some early indications of some change trying to begin next week.  That change will likely be slow in coming, but it’s a start.
