MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day: 1000 Friday

The Snapshot:  Light mixed rain and snow showers will persist through the night.  A short shot a moderate rain can be expected tomorrow morning with things drying out by the afternoon.   

FYI – Totals for this last storm cycle totaled 37” of snow.

The Science

Current Observations:  4” of snow fell overnight, the freezing level rose to 4500’ around 7 pm yesterday and are currently sitting at that elevation.  There is light mixed rain and snow falling with the temperatures in the base area at 33f.   The barometer has clicked up a notch to 1020mb’s.   The westerly winds are still a bit gusty along the ridge tops but are beginning to diminish.   

The Forecast:  Unstable westerly flow will keep light mixed rain and snow showers falling in the mountains through the night.  A warm front will swing through tomorrow morning pushing freezing levels up and bit more.  A short period of moderate rain is expected to move through tomorrow morning.     

A blocking ridge of high pressure will develop over the eastern basin tomorrow afternoon.  This will provide dry and warm weather for the remainder of the weekend.

The Long Range:  Rain with mild temperatures starts out the new week with cooler temperatures expected to arrive mid-week.

Trend and Timing:
Light precipitation will continue through the night.  A short dose of moderate rain to 5000’ is expected between 4 am and noon tomorrow.
