MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day: 0630 Tuesday

The Snapshot:  Cold temperatures with patchy fog today.  Warmer with a chance of snow is expected for the weekend.

The Science

Current Observations: Cold and foggy this morning with temperatures in the teens.  The RH is 94% and the barometer is well in the high pressure range at 1027mb’s.  Satellite images show mid-level clouds moving in with the inversion layer comfortably sitting in the eastern basin.

The Forecast: The high pressure parked over the PNW will keep a lock on the weather for the next few days.  The inversion cloud deck is expected to hover around 4000’ today with easterly flow pushing cold temperatures through the Pass. This pattern will persist through Thursday.

The Long Range:  Warm southerly flow with moisture in tow will begin to filter in late Thursday or early Friday.  The jury is still out on what type of precipitation will fall on Friday – with all the cold air in place, my bet is on snow.   The weather turns more active with snow through the weekend.
